The Namibian Wrestling Federation will host the 2004 SA Coastal Wrestling Championships in Windhoek on 3 and 4 September. It is the 38th time that the championship takes place.

Namibia forms part of the so-called Coastal Provinces, which includes Kwazulu-Natal, Eastern Province, Boland and Western Province. These championships are held every year on a rotation basis in one of the provinces and this year Namibia has the honour to host the tournament for the second time.

This is the big tournament of the year for Namibian wrestlers and especially for the new wrestlers who have qualified. There is a lot of prestige in it for the wrestler who wins a medal on this tournament. Niko Jacobs is one of the products coming out of these championships.

In Boland the Namibian team achieved 26 medals, in Natal (last year), they received 36 medals.

It is expected that more than 500 wrestlers will take part. The Namibian team consists of 80 wrestlers with the ages ranging from 8 years old to seniors of over 22 years of age and weights from under 22 kg to under 120 kg.

For the South African wrestlers, this is a very important event, as they have to participate in it to qualify for the SA Youth Championships at the end of September 2004.

The tournament will be conducted in the Freestyle only and starts at 8h00 on Friday, 3 September 2004. The venue for the event is the New SKW Hall in Olympia.

The Vice President of the Namibian Wrestling Federation, Ben Truter, thanked the sponsors for their involvement. Coca Cola has sponsored N$ 5 000, Dan the Trailerman and Academia Service Station have given another N$ 3 000.

Everybody is invited to attend these prestigious championships.
