The Windhoek City Council has approved the construction plans for the partial demolishing and improvement of the "Windhoek Brauhaus" building structure situated on the corner of Mandume Ndemufayo Ave and Fidel Castro Street. According to a release by the Ohlthaver & List Group and its subsidiary Broll & List Property Management (Namibia), the project is the first building block of the planned expansion and refurbishment of the wernhil Shopping Centre. Moreover it supports the Windhoek Municipality‘s vision to strengthen the Central Business District.

The costs for this initial project are estimated to be N$ 5,2 million. Upon completion during the beginning of December 2004, the complex will accommodate the largest „Fruit & Veg City" retail outlet in Namibia.

„Fruit & Veg City" is the largest fruit and vegetables retailer in Southern Africa. The new retail outlet has all amenities of a super store. Its in-store-departments consist of a Juice Bar, Milk Bar, Farm Fresh Eggs-section, The Dried Fruit and Nut Bar, Italian Shop and Housewives‘ Corner on a total retail area of approximately 1600 m2.

The new „Fruit & Veg City" outlet is set to complement the Wernhil Park Shopping Centre and will enhance shopping convenience by combining grocery- with fruit and vegetable shopping within walking distance from each other.

In addition to this, provision will be made for ample on-site-parking for shoppers convenience.

A second exciting national retailer will be accommodated on the southern side of the „Windhoek Brauhaus" property within the near future. Particulars relating to this retailer will be presented to the public in due course.

Employment has already been created during the initial construction phase. Beyond this an estimated 55 people will be in the permanent employment of the Fruit & Veg City outlet.

The building complex is part of the property portfolio managed by Broll & List Property Management Namibia (Pty) Ltd. This portfolio also includes prime CBD properties such as the Wernhil Park Shopping Centre, Standard Bank Centre, Kaiserkrone and Carl List House.
