Boxing gets Financial Injection

History was made on Wednesday when Telecom Namibia gave a boost to Boxing with its overwhelming sponsorship of almost N$ 200 000 towards the fundraising project and contributed to the upliftment of current and future boxers in this country.

The Telecom Namibia Box ‚n Dine Dinner will be held at the Windhoek Country Club Resort and Casino on 9 October 2004 at 18h45.

Boxing is a popular sports code in Namibia and we are happy to work with the Boxing Academy and help young boxers to realise their dreams. This unique Academy allows local boxers to train in a more than equipped way and the funds will assist with the Academy‘s organisational development and the building of capacity of the coaching staff. Telecom Namibia enable themselves to support the Academy where our finest pugilist are honing their skills in the pursuit of achieving international success. The sponsorship of almost N$ 200 000 towards the Box ‚n Dine event is a practical demonstration of the companies‘ commitment to its social responsibility. Telecom is committed to invest in world class standard of excellent and great oppor-tunity and prosperity for everyone.„It is therefore our great honour to be the main sponsor of Namibia‘s first ever Box ‚n Dine event organised by Nestor Sunshine Tobias Fitness and Boxing Academy", said Frand Ndoroma, MD of Telecom.

The main fight will see Ali „The Silent Assasin" Nuumbembe against Tyson „Tyson" Ushona for the Namibian Welter Weight Title. Ali, who will be visiting from the UK, is thrilled to fight for this title in his home country Namibia. the professional records of both these fighters make this an event not to be missed. The fight will be over 10 rounds „do or die".

Nestor Tobias, the promotor, thanked the sponsors, all organisers and boxers for making his dream a reality. After having a successful career in South Africa‘s professional rinks, he iden-tified the need for an Academy for amateurs, professionals and the general public who wish to keep fit and well in shape. During the 2000 and 2002 a record number of 2950 boxers (junior and senior amateurs) registered with the Boxing Academy. By to-day over 100 amateurs and 11 professionals were produced by this Academy, including Ali Nuumbembe who is living in the UK. Nestors services include match making and international boxing events, development of preparation and training programmes, medical supervision, professional trainers, sparring facilities for major international fights. His expe-rience of 19 professional fights is now reflected in the likes of Frans „Ram-bo" Hanhindi, Paulus „Hitman" Moses, Tyson „Tyson" Ushona, Joseph Hongua „Smokie" Jeremia (Olympics 2004) and others.

The fights on 9 October:

3 rounds: Jeremia „Smokie" Iilongwa vs David Iita

4 rounds: Jason Naule vs Daniel Kashela

6 rounds: Paulus „Hitman" Moses vs Evans Makabela (SA)

10 rounds: Ali „The Silent Assassin" Nuumbembe vs Tyson „Tyson" Ushona.
