On 06 October 2004, the Ohlthaver & List Group (O&L) and its subsidiary Namib Sun Hotels Group (NSH) held a media briefing announcing their plans to refurbish the Thüringer Hof Hotel in Windhoek’s city centre. The gathering took place at the Thüringer Hof Hotel and was chaired by Mr Sven Thieme, Chairman/CEO of O&L and Mr Henry Feris, General Manger NSH.

The sequential refurbishment of the Thüringer Hof Hotel commenced on 27 September 2004 as part of a greater plan to upgrade the group’s hotel and tourism establishments. For the duration of the refurbishment the Thüringer Hof Hotel will continue to receive and accommodate its guests. Completion is anticipated in early 2005.

The refurbishment is aimed at establishing the Thuringer Hof as a functional accommodation establish-ment for the business market segment. Plans are to equip it with a diverse range of public facilities and services for the middle and higher income business market segment:

·Basic value-for-money-accommo-dation: focus on the business traveller.

Business facilities: multi-functional-conference room, travel information centre and basic office functions.

Food-and-Refreshments facilities: Bistro-type light catering for business facilities, hotel guests and the public.

Specific emphasis will be put on workspace, cleanness, comfort and a friendly appearance.

Addressing the gathering Mr Sven Thieme said: "The current depressed state of our tourism-sector doesn’t demean the confidence we have in our tourism sector. Surely, the going is tough! Even so, we have a vision. This vision is to continue building innovative and sustainable businesses. And the Thüringer Hof is certainly one on them."

The group provides accommodation and resort hospitality in or near most major Namibian tourist attractions and business centres.
