President Sam Nujoma has not only enrolled as a student for a Master’s degree in Geology at UNAM this week, his term as UNAM chancellor has been extended for another 6 years until 2011. On Friday the outgoing head of state will also launch the Sam Nujoma Foundation (SNF) on Friday night. The Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) will host a special farewell dinner for the Nujoma on Friday at a Windhoek hotel. At the same time the SNF will be launched, a social organisation similar to that of the Nelson Mandela Foundation. The foundation will collect funds to support disadvantaged Namibians and young children, support the establishment of libraries and archives where scholars and students may conduct research into the history of Namibia, particularly the history of the liberation of Namibia; promote the arts and culture in Namibia by supporting training and other institutions engaged in the promotion of the arts and culture and participate in capacity-building and information sharing activities facilitated by other organisations and institutions within and outside Namibia.
