Brand new packaging equipment installed at Walvis Bay Salt Refiners operating to the south of the port allows for 960 bags of salt packed per hour, the company announced last week. The bags weigh 50 kilograms each and are mainly exported by ship to Angola and West African countries. The company replaced the old bagging device with a new automated device to increase efficiency. Walvis Bay Salt Refiners is one of two salt companies along the coast and employs 120 people. Salt production stands at approximately 100 000 tons for bagged salt and over 500 000 t for bulk salt production at the Walvis Bay company.
