The ministry of lands has called on all relevant authorities like municipalities, regional councils, farmers’ unions and conservancies to register their land rights on communal land. The new Communal Land Reform Act of 2003 has been in operation since 1 March 2003 and all communal land must be registered next year by 1 March 2006. In a press statement the ministry says time was running out as barely 11 months were left. The ministry calls all residents on communal land to visit the offices of their regional Communal Land Boards to apply for the registration of their existing land rights. This was important for individuals, organisations and local authorities as well
