The Rotary Club of Walvis Bay recently received a visitor from the Rotary Club of Onchan on the Isle of Man, Past President Andrew Carnson. Andrew and his wife Audrey were on holiday in Namibia and took time out from their busy holiday schedule to meet with the Rotary Club of Walvis Bay at their weekly Rotary meeting.

Visiting Rotarians are always openly welcomed to the Rotary Club of Walvis Bay, Andrew especially, as he also brought with him a cheque donation of £ 1 400,00 (about N$ 15 000,00) from the Rotary Club of Onchan for the Tuberculosis Isolation Ward at the State Hospital. The donation will be used to purchase the final fixtures and fittings in the Tuberculosis Isolation Ward at the State Hospital, which will now be fully occupied, equipped and operational. The Minister of Health and Social Services Dr. Libertene Amadhila opened the Tuberculosis Isolation Ward at the State Hospital on 25 October 2004, which has been operational since then.

The Rotary Clubs of Walvis Bay and the Isle of Man have also entered into a twinning agreement to foster linkages, contact and cooperation between the two Clubs. During the Rotary meeting Andrew also gave a very entertaining and enlightening talk on the Isle of Man. It is anticipated that in time closer contact and cooperation between the Clubs can be expected, including official exchange visits.
