New Drop-down ATM Service in Katutura

The Okuryangava area of Katutura has a new automatic teller machine (ATM) as from this week. Standard Bank inaugurated the first "drop-down" ATM, in the country, at a service station. Finance Minister, Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said financial institutions should decrease their service as well as banking fees and she urged the financial sector to cater for diverse needs especially for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The bank now has 100 ATM’s in the network in Namibia. A drop-down ATM is a very safe device and can be raised and made disappear into a flat surface at the touch of a button. It can be installed much easier than conventional ATMS, virtually any place where there is a power line to provide electricity

Fisheries Minister to Hold

Stakeholder Meeting

The minister of fisheries and marine resource, Dr Abraham Iyambo will hold an all inclusive meeting with stakeholders to discuss remedial steps to help the country’s suffering industry, which is hard hit by the strong N$ against the US dollar, high fuel prices and high maintenance costs. The meeting would take place before the end of April, the NBC reported on Wednesday. The minister would then also announce which support measures government would undertake, according to the report. Iyambo intends to include banks and other financing institutions, industry representatives, labour unions and parastatals like NamPower, NamWater and NamPort, which all charge hefty fees from the fishing industry. At the same occasion, the minister will also announce the new fishing quotas or TAC’s since the new fishing seasons starts on 1 May.
