Media told to be Apostles of Truth

Saturday 30th of April 2005

Minister of Presidential Affairs Dr Albert Kawana told journalist that they should always be "apostles of truth and objectivity" and that they were "not untouchable holy cows". Launching the annual report of the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) on the state of media in SADC countries on Wednesday, Kawana called on Namibian media to report responsibly and not to be "judge and jury at the same time". World press freedom day is observed annually on 3 May after such a declaration was passed under the auspices of the UN in 1991 in Windhoek. The annual MISA report scrutinises media and freedom of the press in 11 SADC member states.
