Phase II of TB Ward in Walvis Bay planned Saturday 21st of May 2005 The TB Isolation Ward at the Walvis Bay State Hospital was opened by the Minister of Health and Social Services on 25 October 2005. In conjunction with the Walvis Bay State Hospital, the Project was initiated by the Rotary Club of Walvis Bay. Generous support was given by a few local fishing companies (Cadilu Fishing, Ombaye Fishing, Namcoast and Namcoast Fishing), Nam-port, Overberg Fishing, the Paul Coulson Foundation and the Rotary Club of Onchan, Isle of Man to realise the Project. The TB Isolation Ward is fully operational and accommodates a total of 11 patients in a secure and isolated environment which was custom designed to ensure the best treatment for patients to recover and recuperate from TB. Due to the sucess of the TB Isolation Ward the Walvis Bay State Hospital and the Rotary Club of Walvis Bay are starting an investigation into Phase II of the Project together with the Rotary Club of Onchan. A recent holiday to Walvis Bay by Roy Harding (previously a resident in Walvis Bay) from the Rotary Club of Onchan and Brian Kelly a local businessman from the Isle of Man resulted in a visit to the TB Isolation Ward and the start of a joint project to facilitate the construction of Phase II of the TB Isolation Ward. Roy and Brian have a special interest in the eradication of TB and have committed themselves to assist and support this new Project. The itention of this new Project is to convert 3 additional garages at the Walvis Bay State Hospital into accommodation for an additional 20 beds for TB patients who need an isolated environment to recover and recuperate from TB. The anticipated cost of this Project will be about N$ 300 000, the bulk of the funding to come from the Isle of Man via the Rotary Club of Onchan and Brian Kelly and his associates. The Rotary Club of Walvis Bya will supplement this Project with its own funds. The preliminary planning of this Project has started and it is hoped that site development can commence by the middle of 2006. |
