Caprivi Case Shifted to Windhoek Saturday 28th of May 2005 The venue of high treason trial of 120 alleged Caprivi secessionists will be shifted from Grootfontein to Windhoek when the court case resumes on 1 November 2005. Judge Elton Hoff made the ruling in the Windhoek High Court on Thursday morning. He said he had thoroughly considered the application made by deputy prosecutor general Danie Small who asked in behalf of the State to change the venue after a gruesome accident 2 months ago, killing one state prosecutor and seriously injuring two others, who are still in hospital. Their incapacity has seriously implicated court proceedings and that is why the case has to be postponed to Novem-ber. "The case will be held at the social hall in the Windhoek Central Prison", Hoff ruled. Both defence lawyers and government attor-neys were happy about the ruling. "It will be much for all of use", Patrick Kau-ta, defence counsel told PLUS. A promi-nent accused, Geoff-rey Mwilima, former DTA politician said for his personal health he was glad. "My health is bad, at least I will have better access to doctors in Wind-hoek", he told PLUS.Apart from Mwilima, 28 accused were in court Thursday, as they have no defence lawyers. Security was strict; everybody was thoroughly searched before allowed into Court B. On arrival by truck, the accused sang Caprivi liberation songs and had placards with them, requesting political dialogue. |
