Namibia thrashes All Stars 11:1 in Inline Hockey Sunday 12th of June 2005 Just after receiving their "colours" for the World Championships in Finland (9 - 16 July 2005),the Namibian National InLine Hockey team played a match over 4 x 12 minutes against foreigners playing in Namibia (from Russia, Finland, Germany etc.) as well as Namibians who did not make it into the WC-Team. It took them only 2:43 minutes to open the scoring (Lutz Feddersen, assisted by Mike Ellinger) - and after the first quarter the score was already 5:0 in favour of the National team (scorers: Quinton Kotze,Jörg Güther, Marcello Baas and Harald Keil). The second quarter saw only two more goals added (scored by M. Ellinger, assisted by Oliver Lohmeier - and by Basti Faber), thus the national team was 7:0 up going into half time. The first 2-minute penalty came during the third quarter, when Namibia was leading 8:0 (goal by M. Ellinger) - and Basti Faber soon achieved goal number 9. Then Nami-bia‘s Captain Quinton Kotze had to cool down in the cool box for 2 minutes - and a change of defensive players saw Namibia suffering the only goal by their opponents (scored by Marco Rönni, thus 1:9) It was during this 3rd quarter that Clive Vermaak suffered a shoulder injury which may keep him out of practice for some weeks. The 4th quarter started with two super chances for the Namibian team, which were not put away into goal, but then Quinton Kotze and Oliver Lohmeier (assisted by B. Faber) made it 11:1 for the Namibian national team. Spectators agreed that one thing was obvious: the extra training and build-up during training camps had paid off. The Namibian team can go to Finland and compete with the good conscience which comes out of good preparation. |
