WINDHOEK OPTICS RAMBLERS Windhoek Optics Ramblers are the 2005 NFA Cup champions!

What a great day in the history of Ramblers it was! The final was played at the Independence stadium in front of 5000 spectators and the hundreds of Windhoek Optics Ramblers suppor-ters were treated to a thrilling final.

The match started off with Windhoek Optics Ramblers dominating the proceedings and it came as no surprise when captain Quinton Jacobs put his team ahead with a penalty in the 20th minute. Ramblers created more chances and Victor Helu was unlucky to hit the post. Black Africa launched an attack in the 35th minute that was concluded with the equaliser. The first half provided top class football with the pace of the game being excep-tionally fast. The second half was less exciting as both teams seemed very cautious not to make mistakes that could cost the game.

Quinton Jacobs was, however, extremely unlucky when his shot hit the cross bar in the 85th minute. The game then went into extra time that produced a lot of drama. One player each of Black Africa and Ramblers received the marching orders. Both teams were now playing forward trying to secure the winning goal. Black Africa capitalised in the 117th minute on a bad defensive error by Windhoek Optics Ramblers and got the 2:1 lead. Everybody thought it was all over for Ramblers. But the Windhoek Optics Ramblers team seemed undeterred by this setback and carried on playing forward.

In the 120th minute Victor Helu unleashed a powerful shot into the back of the Black Africa net after some combinational football by Quinton Jacobs and Hafeni Likeus. Seconds thereafter the 120 minutes of playing time were finally over and the game now had to be decided on penalties. Quinton Jacobs, Erastus Ndjavera, George Tsamaseb, Patrick M’Kon-twana and Hafeni Likeus were all on target for Windhoek Optics Ramblers following well executed penalties. Windhoek Optics Ramblers goalkeeper Esau Tjiouro, however, managed to save the third penalty from Black Africa thus ensuring victory for his team!!

Great scenes of jubilation erupted amongst the Ramblers players, officials and the supporters. What makes this victory very special is that it coincides with the 60. anniversary of Ramblers.

A special word of thanks to the fans who supported their team tirelessly for over two hours! Congratulations to the entire team and the coaching staff who made this victory possible!!

The entire Ramblers Club is very proud of you!

Hafeni Likeus came on as a substitute for Tommy Kaimbi during extra time.

The coaching combination of Tollie van Wyk and Dave Fransman proved to be a winning combination for Windhoek Optics Ramblers this season as they also secured the third place in the Premier League. Manager Duimpie Davis, technical director Mario Carreira and bus driver Ockies Ockhuizen also did a phantastic job for the team this season.
