Dubious fund collection at coast

Saturday 23rd of July 2005

A young man with the name of Haiduwa K. is currently paying visits to numerous businesses and private individuals in Swakopmund on behalf of "Namibia Youth Security Services". He is allegedly collecting funds for supposedly "patrolling the beachfront and town centre" and for "equipment" required in the fight against crime.

Though he seems to be trustworthy with an official receipt book and copies of press reports, his activities are not endorsed at current by the Namibian Police; neither is he working with them. A source from the tourism industry at the coast said this kind of fundraising is illegal and not endorsed by the police. There is neither control over any of the funds nor prove that they are actually being used for the purpose they are collected for. Police officer Vlam Burger at the Swakopmund police station can be contacted under 064-402722 for further details.
