During a dinner held at the Atlantic Hotel on 13 July 2005, the Rotary International District Governor, Johan Gerber, visited the Rotary Club of Walvis Bay. The visit formed part of an annual visit to all Rotary Clubs in Namibia by the District Governor. Johan was accompanied by his wife Mari who is also very involved in Rotary matters.

The purpose of the visit to the Rotary Club of Walvis Bay was for the District Governor to meet with the Club membership, to discuss common Rotary and Rotary International issues and to identify and plan for Rotary Projects for the year ahead. In his welcoming address the District Governor explained the link between Clubs, Districts and Rotary International and the Rotary International Theme of President Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammer being "SERVICE Above Self". The District Governor also urged Rotary Clubs to get back to basics, to ensure sound Club Administration, and to get involved in meaningful Club Projects. Club Projects that are supported by Rotary International are literacy and education, water management, women in leadership, the public image of Rotary and the Rotary Foundation, many of special relevance to Namibia. Rotary Clubs were urged to work with other service organisations, NGO’s, National and Local Government in order to fulfill their project objectives. Finally, the District Governor encouraged Rotary Clubs to maintain and extend their membership in order to achieve their and Rotary International’s objectives.

The Rotary Club of Walvis Bay will assist and support the Walvis Bay community in the most meaningful way possible, following the Rotary Motto – SERVICE ABOVE SELF.
