Saturday 6th of August 2005 The Festival was opened and each performing group was introduced by the principal of S.I.!Gobs school, Mr. Harold Clarke, who welcomed the students and asked them all to listen closely to the opening remarks of the Mayor, Mr. Mike Tjirare, formerly a school teacher himself All ten groups of up to 40 students listened attentively tor the comments of the Mayor. The Mayor told them how much they could learn from the day. They should watch closely how the groups from other schools performed their numbers and take back with them comments and observations which they could share with the other members of their own choir, so that next year they would be even better. The combined choirs began the day by singing the National anthem as a single combined choir of more than 240 voices, the international visitors were given song sheets with the flag of Namibia and the words of the National Anthem so they could follow along. The seven individual choirs lending their voices to the days activities included The Waldfrieden Mission School "Melody Makers", Omaruru; the Ebenhaeser Primary School Choir, Karibib; the Ubasen Primary School "Golden Voices", Omaruru; the G.K.Wahl Combined School Choir, Kalkfeld; the Usakos Junior Secondary School; Usakos; the Omaruru Primary School Choir; the S.I.!Gobs "Living Voices", Omaruru. The international group, the One World Dance Company, from the United States performed at the end of the choir presentation. In the midst of the choir presentations a drama group from Usakos made their presentation, and the "Mueze La Family Boys" a dance group from Omaruru also performed. The day’s program was ended by the group choir coming together for a last time, hearing closing remarks by Principal Harold Clarke who praised all the performers for their presentations. The combined choirs welcomed these praises with loud applause and closed by singing the National Anthem. The Festival was flawlessly organized by the NCCI Omaruru Branch, who appointed an organizer, NCCI Omaruru Board Member Karin Bachhofer. |
