Standard Bank wins EU award

For the second year in a row, Standard Bank has won the ‘Best Bank in Namibia’ award in Euromoney’s Awards for Excellence 2005, the banks said this week. According to the deputy publisher of Euromoney in the UK, Michael Dragoyevich, the banks are judged using a combination of qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data is researched by the journalist who will interview clients, research local reports, speak to bank analysts, and generally form an impression using qualitative judgements by individuals.

The quantitative data is provided by tools such as Bankscope, the banks own data, annual reports, and other various market indices. Some key banking measures are NPL, cost-income ratio, net income, return on average and market share in consumer finance, credit cards and deposits. Standard Bank of Namibia posted an increase in headline earnings of 10.4% and in earnings per share of 8.9% in 2004.
