Donkey carts for refuse removal

Saturday 12th of April 2003
Brigitte Weidlich

A commendable and environmentally friendly way of removing rubbish in Ruacana village started this year. Ten unemployed youths of the area came with the proposal to the regional councillor’s office and were given the opportunity to tender. They were granted a three-year tender to remove refuse and rubbish at Ruacana. As they do not have a truck, they make use of a donkey cart. According to the NBC, the councillor also helped them out with two donkeys to pull the cart until they can buy their own animals. The young entrepreneurs have called on other unemployed young Namibians to clean their villages with donkey carts while generating an income for themselves.
