The president of the Namibia Agricultural Union, Jan de Wet received mixed reactions for his proposal to compile a land use plan with the input of as many commercial farmers as possible. While most farmer associations accepted the idea in principal the farmers of the maize triangle between Otavi, Grootfontein and Tsumeb would not accept that they did not have a chance to peruse the end product before it is handed over to the government. During his three-week road show, de Wet told farmers there was no time to refer the draft back to them before it went to the ministry of lands, resettlement and rehabilitation. He urged commercial farmers to become actively engaged in the land reform process before it was "too late."
