In the framework of the bilateral International Youth Exchange Programme between Germany and Namibia, an U 17 team and accompanying delegation of the Football and Athletics Association Westphalia arrived in Namibia on 8 April 2003. Apart from training, the team will play matches against Namibian teams in Mariental, Omaruru and Tsumeb.

During their numerous visits to Namibia, members of the Football and Athletics Association Westphalia, who initiated the exchange programme in 1994, became aware of the need for soccer equipment, especially in the rural areas.Therefore, back in Germany they approached numerous senior soccer clubs to sponsor soccer balls and youth teams to sponsor clothing. The results were very lucrative and 2 800 balls and 2 500 pairs of shoes are on their way to Namibia.

Together with Dr. Veii, Director of Sport in the Ministry of Basic Education, Culture and Sport, the German Embassy will distribute the equipment all over Namibia.

A reception for the delegation and team was held at the residence of the Counsellor Klaus Dieter Düxmann on 9 April 2003 at 18h00.
