A junior tennis tournament was held in Swakopmund the weekend of 9 & 10 September, sponsored by Swakop-mund’s branch of Standard Bank Namibia.

A total of 64 juniors in all age groups from under 10 to under 18 entered, from as far afield as Gobabis, Otjiwarongo and Windhoek. The most entries came from the under 12 girls (12 girls entered) and the under 12 boys (13 boys entered).

Highlights of the event were the girls’ under 12 semi-final in which the 10-year old Lynique Theron lost her match against 12-year old Teri Olivier in a long and tough battle. Teri went on to the finals against Meikke Woermann from Swakopmund however Meikke won with an easy 6-1, 6-0.

In the boys Under 10 section Peter Siani and Veja Hinda fought another huge battle with Siani beating Hinda 8 5.

Namibian tennis players are gearing themselves for the Nashua Junior Masters tennis tournament that is due to take place during the weekend of 6, 7 October.
