Friday 23rd of September 2005 Tuesday night was a hisytoric moment for football in Namibia, when the three corporate companies who form the Namibia Football Consortium pledged a whipping N$ 40 million to the NFA for the next four years . In a motivational speech after a moment of silence in commem-moration of the late Lazarus Ipangelwa, Frank Fredericks, the athletics hero said that a better future lies in the hand of individuals. He went back to his childhood and said that he grew up in a dusty streret in Katutura where he had to sleep on an empty stomach some days, but through hard work and dedication and determination he overcame serious obstacles in his life. He appeal;ed to the young people to prepare for the challenge in future - „Education is the key to the future". He further stressed that one should learn from mistakes, strive for the best and the young ones must have courage, discipline and personal goals to reach, as we all have the potential to come out tops. He warned the audience that setting goals was important because without goals you have no direction. „Believe that you can fly, believe that you can touch the sky and think about tomorrow" that is how he convinced himself to challenge his competitors when he felt down. Bengt Strenge spoke on behalf of the consortium, recognized the roles played by the corporate partners in the form of Namibia Football Consortium for the past 4 years."We believe that it was no small feat to invest all our energies and monies into the project of this magnitude. To decide the fate of our national game for the next five years has taken us many hours of reflection and contemplation. After all is said and done, it is gratifying to report that we all emerge from this process resolute in our belief that we can not forsake Namibia as a good corporate citizen in this hour of need". The vision 2030 will be realized as we clearly pronounce it as our national development ambition on the aganda. He stressed that „We have a vision especially for the World Cup 2010 in South Africa and the African Cup of Nations in 2008 and 2010". Petrus Damaseb recognised that we are entering a new era and true wealth in the Namibian footbal. He thanked the consortium for their commitment for the past four years and that they are committed again for the next four years. He recognised that good partnership from the corporate world and the Government and their effort to make football the greatest sporting code with the help of this sponsorship. Damaseb promised that the Premier League will start on 21 October 2005. |
