Lifestock Levies

Sunday 2nd of October 2005
Brigitte Weidlich

With effect from this Saturday, 1 October, levies will be imposed on the livestock slaughtered in Namibia and exported from Namibia, the Meat Board announced. Levies on cattle are now N$ 12 and for sheep and goats N$ 2.40 per head. The levy on pigs will now be N$ 1.62 from 1 October. The special levy for animal health has remained unchanged at N$ 1.- for cattle and 20 cents per sheep and goat. The Meat Board said the levy increase was necessary because the responsibilities and functions of the Meat Board had increased in the Namibian meat industry. The last tariff increases were made in December 2004.
