In one of the most dramatic Fistball World Cup events in recent history, SOGIPA Porto Allegre became the first club to win the double, the ladies and men’s World Team Cup.

After Friday’s games, everything looked like as if the European dominance in Fistball would continue, as both the European champions, ladies and men won in straight set all their games. First did TV Voerde, from Germany, win against the local team SKW in 2: 0 sets, and than they won a hard fought victory against the South American Champion Sogipa also in 2: 0 sets. The European men’s champion, FCB Askoe Urfahr Linz, from Austria, did follow suit, and were clear favourites to take the title on Saturday. In the men’s’ division, did the local SKW team nearly caused the biggest upset, when they were leading 16:12 against Askoe in the first set, only to loose 20:17 and also in their game against Sogipa they were leading in both sets.

But the reverse games on Saturday brought World class Fistball at its best to Namibia, and the men’s final was rated by the President of the International Fistball Federation as one of the Top 5 Final of all times.

First did the Sogipa girls the unthinkable, when they raced into a 2:0 lead against TV Voerde, all 700 spectators could believe their eyes what was happening. The title had to be decided by a final match wining set and again was it the Brazilian flair that was too strong, and for the first time after 7 years, the sensation was perfect, a South American Ladies team was crowned Ladies Team World Cup winner – SOGIPA Porto Allegre.

And at what happened with the ladies, the spectators where buzzing and humming, could it be repeated?,

And what happened now, was yet never been seen on Namibian soil, absolute World Class by the top two teams in the World, by the top two Spikers in the world, by defence actions, they were so unbelievable, that spectators at times were stunned silent.

Sogipa had to win in two sets, and that is exactly what they did, and therefore, as with the ladies, forced an match winning final set, a set that lasted for nearly an hour, a set that had it all, awesome power, finesse, tactics on highest level, and a winner, that nobody expected. SOGIPA Porto Allegre won the final set 21:19 and was crowned for the 8th time Team Fistball World Cup Winner.

The final Log Standing:

Ladies:

1) Sogipa Porto Allegre (Brazil)

2) TV Voerde (Germany)

3) SKW (Namibia)

Men:

1) Sogipa Porto Allegre (Brazil)

2) FCB Askoe Urfahr Linz (Austria)

3) SKW (Namibia) Once again did the Fistball Association of Namibia together with the SKW Fistball Club hosted a World Class Fistball event, that put Namibia on the map as one of the best hosts ever, that was organised to perfection, and had over 1500 spectators over days.

After this successful event, the President of the International Fistball Association, Mr. Ernesto Dohnalek, suggested, that its about time, that Namibia should host a World Championship again, as 1995 for the men, he hinted, to Namibia has got an excellent chance, to host the World Championships for ladies 2010 as well another Team World Cup 2008.

The only sad issue was, that none of the Sports Commission members responded or had time to attend this World Class event.
