BLACK BELT GRADING FOR

The annual Black Belt Grading of Goju Ryu Karate was held on 24 September 2005 in Windhoek. 3 Students tested for Shodan Black Belt, 1 for Nidan (2nd Dan) and 1 tested for Sandan (3rd Dan) in front of a panel headed by Sensei Bakkies Laubscher, 8th Dan Black Belt, Chief Instructor of the International Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate Federation for Africa. Sensei Bakkies Laubscher expressed his satisfaction with the standard of the Namibian Black Belts that compares well with any grading that he performs around the world.

The students had to attend a 12 hour Gasshuku (training camp) before the grading, they had to pass a 2 ½ hour physical test and also had to pass a written examination to test their knowledge about the history as well as technical aspects of Goju Ryu Karate.

The following students graded :

Jean Pierre Camm – Shodan Cameron Solomons – Shodan

Justin Sham – Shodan Sam Ekandjo – Nidan (2nd Dan)

Willie Viljoen – Sandan (3rd Dan)
