The Nashua Junior Masters Tennis Tournament took place in Windhoek during the weekend of 6 and 7 October. Eight players in each age group were invited from all over the country to participate against each other. The youngsters played exciting tennis and showed great improvement since the previous tennis tournament. Mr Muis Burger from the sponsor Nashua remarked at the prize giving ceremony that Nashua is proud to be associated with Namibian tennis because the sport is well organised and the sponsors get value for their investment in the tournaments.

The final results were as follows: In the girls under 10 age group Theresa van Zyl beat Linique Theron 6 3, 6 3. Old rivals Peter Siani and Veja Hinda fought it out in the boys under 10 section with Peter Siani taking the title with a score of 6 2, 6 1. In the girls under 12 section Meikke Woermann from Swakopmund beat arch rival Bernie Olivier from Rehoboth 6 2, 6 3. Johan van Vuuren beat Calla Joone 7 5, 6 0 in the boys under 12 section.

Jana de Villiers from Keetmanshoop is the new national girls under 14 champion. She beat Melanie Louw from Otjiwarongo 6 2, 7 5 with Jean Erasmus taking the under 14 boys title. He beat Niel van Vuuren 6 3, 6 2.

Marna Louw from Keetmanshoop caused a stir when she beat the number one under 16 girls player in Namibia Riekie Honiball in a tight match with the sensational score of 7 5, 3 6, 6 3. Henko Serdyn from Windhoek beat Misha Hartmann from Swakopmund 6 4, 7 6.

There were no under 18 boys participating in the tournament due to the current Grade 12 examination however the girls took some time off to play and Tesmarie van Vuuren from Windhoek beat Maryna Louw from Otjiwarongo 7 5, 61.
