On the 13th of August 2005 all Namibian gymnasts competed in the 2nd Qualifying competition in Windhoek. Following this event, a team of six artistic gymnasts were selected to compete in the SA National Championships in Durban held on 29 September to 1 October.

The six girls chosen to take part were from the various clubs around the country, namely Swakopmund Gymnastic Club, two clubs from Otjiwarongo - Triomf and Otjiwarongo Gymnastic Club, as well as Excelsior from Windhoek.

The SA Championships were only applicable for the Level 4’s and higher and attracted competition from all regions in South Africa, with an estimated 450 gymnastics taking part. The Namibian team comprised of Level 4 age group 12 & under, Level 4, 13 & over and Level 6, 13 & over girls.

The Namibian team competed on Saturday the 1st of October in the Old Mutual Sports Hall – UKZN, Howard College Campus and returned home the following day. The Level 4, 12 & under competition consisted out of 34 gymnasts.

The Level 4, 13 & over competition consisted out of 47 gymnasts and the Level 6, 13 & over consisted out of 44 gymnasts which presented tough competition for the Namibians. However, weeks of pre-competition practice and training had prepared our six gymnastics for the outing, which all put their best foot forward and handled the event well.

Ayanda Leppen (Swakopmund Gymnastic Club); Shinene Steyn (Triomf Gymnastic Club Otjiwarongo); Marlo van der Westhuizen and Judy Poggenpoel (Otjiwarongo Gymnastic Club) plus Mischke Visser and Nadja Goike (Excelsior Gymnastic Club Windhoek.)
