Blatant Corruption in Home Affairs

A woman running a private passport agency stunned parliamentarians and reporters alike when she freely recalled how she took 20 officials from the home affairs ministry to Swakopmund last November as a treat and "to say thank you" for issuing passports speedier and bringing them gifts to the office. Mrs Anita Tjombe of "Passport Express Agency" told the parliamentary standing committee on public accounts Thursday that she even issued a cash cheque of N$ 300 this Wednesday to a government official in that ministry while she was there. "I wrote out a cheque as payment for passport fees. An official their asked me jokingly if she can’t also have a cheque", Ms Tjombe said, as MP’s and their clerks gasped for breath. "Because I was in such a good mood, I also wrote out a cheque for her", she added. The committee members told her that this was corruption.
