Words of Thanks and Praise: Passion Play Saturday 29th of October 2005 Sitting at my writing desk in Swakopmund, listening to the "Nelson Mass" by Joseph Haydn, my thoughts are carried back to Saturday, 24 September 2005. I had driven to Windhoek to see the Passion Play... as in years before! It was a beautiful afternoon. My friend and I drove to Döbra. Having parked the car, we walked to the Amphitheater and just enjoyed the atmosphere. In front of us lay the vast natural "stage" with its yellow grass - surrounded by bush and rocks, leading to a cliff. Two huge crosses could be seen - the third one to be erected for the "crucifiction of Christ". To the left of the "grass-stage" were African huts, as we know them. We could see the fire places, all ready to be lit. This was Namibia as we know and love it! In the centre of the "field" stood the long oval table plus chairs for the "Last Supper". On the right side of the stage, "marble" pillars and stairs pointing to the place where Jesus was tortured and sentenced to death. As the sun moved more and more to the West, and eventually sank behind the hills, we noticed the fires being lit in front of the huts. Mothers and children gathered - we could hear the voices, - talking and laughing! Babier crying, the sound of drums and singing, - just beautiful! The PASSION PLAY had started and we became part of it! It is quite difficult to express our gratitude to each and everyone, who had anything to do with this Passion Play - starting with Sister Arnolda and Brother Manfred, - the Actors, - and last but not least, everybody else who helped. No „Passion Play" can be greater than ours in Döbra! Many, many thanks!
