Water scarcity at Walvis Bay

The Municipality of Walvis Bay has warned residents of a severe reduction in water pressure in the town. This comes as a result of NamWater power line failures and pipe breaks. These have affected the pumps of the company’s boreholes in the Rooibank area, decreasing the provision of fresh water to the reservoirs. The situation caused a drastic decline in the water levels of the reservoirs, says Utaara Hoveka, spokesperson of the municipality. The town had no option but to assist NamWater by reducing water supply volume and pressure levels to residents and businesses to prevent a total shortage.

"We once again urge all residents to consume water sparingly", Hoveka pleased. Non-essential activities such as watering gardens and washing cars should be avoided or reduced to the minimum. Although the electrical problem has been resolved, the inflow of water into the reservoirs is such that the levels recover only at a very slow pace. Projections are that water supply at full capacity, could be restored possibly by Friday evening
