Excellent Contacts with Chinese Saturday 19th of November 2005 Namibia and the Peoples’ Republic of China assured each other of good relations and excellent cooperation at a signing ceremony at State House on Thursday. President Hifikepunye Pohamba and the leader of the Chinese delegation, Li Chang Chun witnessed the signing of a multi-million loan agreement for the purchase of more railway equipment form China for Namibia’s northern railway and a bilateral investment protection agreement. Chang Chun invited President Pohamba to visit China next month and he accepted the invitation. Some 50 Chinese businessmen and members of the ruling Communist Party of China visited Namibia for two days, holding trade talks with Namibian counterparts and visiting the Chinese space station near Cape Cross along the Namibian coast. On the pro-gramme was also a meeting with SWAPO president Sam Nujoma who hosted a luncheon for them at a Chinese restaurant in Windhoek. The delegation will leave Namibia on Friday night, apparently on their way to Botswana. Namibian citizens are getting concerned about the influx of Chinese nationals to Namibia, who seem to get working and residence permits without any problems. They also take business away from Namibian construction companies, snatching government contracts. |
