Motorists in Namibia and in South Africa will have to face shortages of unleaded petrol supply between 9 and 19 December, the NBC reported. In an interview, mines and energy minister Erkki Nghimtina confirmed to the national broadcaster that the Pretoria government had notified Windhoek about the shortages, apparently caused by Sasol. The Western Cape is already hit by a fuel crisis with shortage of petrol supply causing frustration.

Equally, a shortage in electricity supply from South Africa over the past 4 to 6 weeks caused NamPower to operate the Van Eck power station, which is fired by coal, which is very expensive. Problems at the Koeberg nuclear power station caused power black outs in South Africa and Eskom had difficulty exporting electricity to other countries, like Namibia.
