Anti-Corruption Bill Passed

Friday 25th of April 2003
Brigitte Weidlich

The National Assembly finally passed the Anti-Corruption Bill this week, which was already tabled in parliament towards the end of last year. The draft legislation makes provision for a commission that is to investigate cases of corruption. It has the powers to arrest individuals, search offices and other property for investigations. The recent example of the Social Security Commission, where large funds were invested without proper authorisation, nepotism and unauthorised salary increases and car allowances were brought to light by means of a commission of inquiry, shows that corruption needs to be countered in Namibia.
