The Walvis Bay municipality on Monday night suspended its town clerk Augustinus Katiti and the general manager for finance Muronga Hain-gura together with 4 junior municipal officials, the municipality announced. The drastic steps were taken after a special management committee meeting, which was followed by an extra ordinary town council meeting. Their suspension follows allegations in some local media, suggesting contravention of the municipality’s credit control policy on the part of the 6 employees. Their suspension allows investigations in these allegations. "Council will soon appoint an external auditing firm to assess the credit control situation, particularly with regard to employees’ accounts", the spokes-person for the Walvis Bay municipality, Utaara Hoveka said in a statement. The town council will inform the minister of Regional, local government and rural development, John Pandeni of its decision in writing, as per requirements of the local authority act. In the meantime, the council has appointed the general manager for water, waste and environmental management, André Brummer as acting CEO.
