Torrential rains and lightning the past week partially disrupted telephone services in many parts of the country. While some phone lines are working from time to time, others are hardly accessible.

Cloudy conditions prevailing in some parts of the country are also affecting the optimal functioning of rural wireless systems powered by way of solar batteries.

Some areas in the Kunene, Erongo, Otjozondjupa, Omusati and Oshana regions are out of services as a result of heavy downpours and lightning experienced during the past few days.

Areas without service in the Erongo region are Ombutuzu, Wilhelmstal, Okahandja, Ondjona, Hochfeld and Otjisondu.

In the Otjozondjupa region places affected are Otjikondo, Bier-manskool, Waterberg, Thosari, Kalkfeld, Okakarara, Okamatapati, Uib and Horabe.

In the north of the country, partial disruption is being experienced at Opuwo (Kunene), Ombalantu (Omusati) and Oshakati (Oshana).

Repair works are underway but it is not clear when the services will resume as some rural areas are still inaccessible by road.
