Namibia will receive international food aid from the World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations. About 10 million people in Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, Zambia, and Zimbabwe are to receive food from the WFP until June, but "new needs in Namibia" have required adding the country, James Morris, WFP director said in Johannesburg last week. About 111,000 AIDS orphans in Namibia will be getting food aid, many of whom have taken on the responsibilities as head of large households following the death of both parents. There are some 15 million AIDS orphans in southern Africa, and the number is expected to grow to 20 million over the next five years.
