RSA bans Nigerian Poultry for Bird Flu

South Africa will ban poultry imports from Nigeria following an outbreak in that country of bird flu it said Wednesday. The deadly strain of the H5N1 bird flu, the first in Africa was depicted a few days earlier in Nigeria. Pretoria will not increase precautionary measures year said agriculture ministry spokesman David Tshabalala. "But we will ban any poultry products from Nigeria from entering South Africa," he was quoted by South African media. SADC health ministers in November 2005 drew up a regional response plan for bird flu.
