Sunday 19th of February 2006 International bonds of friendship, good will and mutual understanding between Germany and Namibia were recognized and enhanced when the Lions Club of Windhoek Metropolitan met for its Charter Night and Banquet early in July 2005 after the official club charter was signed by the International President of Lions International on 23 May 2005. Wolfgang Schuckmann, Windhoek Metropolitan president and representative of the Lions Foundation Germany (Hilfswerk der deutschen Lions) shares the joy of his fellow Lions in expectation of the arrival of their twinning partners from Mosbach in Southern Germany. An eventful second week in February 2006 will start with a "Welcome and International Twinning Banquet" at Windhoek on 14 February 2006. On 16 February 2006 the Lions Club of Mosbach will officially hand over eight houses to the San community at Ombili. This project has primarily been sponsored by the Lions Club of Mosbach, assisted by the Lions Club of Stormarn and other individually named contributors towards the San Housing Project Ombili. On 17 February 2006 two school buildings consisting of a laboratory and a number of class rooms will officially be opened and handed over to the community at Tsintsabis. More than N$ 1 000 000 have been invested into the completed "Tsintsabis Junior Secondary School" project, which will be handed over to the Ministry of Education in the presence of school principal Betty Kaula, teachers, learners, parents, visiting Lions and partners, Richard Waibel and his support group, the Hilfswerk der deutschen Lions (Lions Foundation Germany), the German Embassy, the Ministry of Education and other invited guests. The Richard Waibel family and friends will visit Windhoek, Ombili, Tsintsabis and Namutoni during their short stay in Namibia. As the group consists of a number of „hunters and horn blowers" it has offered to support the handing-over proceedings with the performance of a St Hubertus mass. Interested people in Windhoek are invited to the St Mary‘s Cathedral on Sunday, 19 February 2006 at 18h00. In agreement with a wishj of Hans Riehle‘s widow from Ludwigsburg in Germany and supported by deceased‘s Rotary Club in Southern Germany, a „Hans Riehle Education Trust Fund" has been established with an initial capital of N$ 250 000. A further N$ 20 000 will be made available for the opening of a „Hans Riehle Haus" at the SOS Children‘s Village at Khomasdal. With the supply and installation of a water tank for the „Poor Sisters of Africa" at Brakwater, the Lions Club of Windhoek Metropolitan concluded its service activities for the year 2005. The chartering of a third Lions Club in Windhoek has substantially enhanced Lions‘ potential to take an active interest in the civic and social welfare of communities rendering aid to the weak and substance to the needy. |
