2006 Valco Pipes cc Chairman’s Rally Saturday 25th of February 2006
Saturday the 12th of February 2006 saw the start of the first Old Wheelers Rally for this the to 20th anniversary year of the Old Wheelers Club of Namibia. The idea of this rally was not only to start the year of relaxed atmosphere but also to give our sponsors, supporters and newcomers the chance to experience what the Old Wheeler Rallies are all about.
A total of 19 teams entered the rally, 2 sponsors teams and 5 teams that entered their vehicles in the touring class. This touring class entries were newcomers to the Old Wheelers Rally and to give them a chance they followed a seasoned Old Wheeler with only a 30 second gap. Namibian Breweries took part in the rally in their party bus and proved that quantity is not always better then quality. With 1 driver and 9 navigators they managed to land in the middle of the field, a very respectable position for first timers but the African Wire Ropes team, with only 1 navigator, ended the rally with one penalty point less. These two vehicles were the only two modern vehicles where the touring class boasted with the most exotic vehicles. Of the more interesting touring class vehicles were the beautiful 1934 Ford Coupe of Nicolas Honore, the 1938 Ford V8 of Wolfgang Kleine, a 1947 Plymouth 2 Door and the majestic 1953 Rolls Royce Silverdawn. The rally ended successfully at the Old Wheelers Club in Mac Adam Street where a delicious lunch was served. The next event of the Old Wheelers Club will be the Breakfast Run on the 26th of March and then the highlight of this year the Standard Bank Asset and Vehicle Finance Etosha Rally from the 30th of April to the 5th of May 2006.
So please be on the lookout for the great old ladies of yesteryear as they make their way up to the North. |
