The Ovaherero/Ovambanderu Council for Dialogue on the 1904 Genocide (OCD-1904) will meet at Otjinene this weekend to discuss a form of dialogue with Germany including consultations with the Namibian government regarding the 1904 Herero uprising where 10s of Herero perished fleeing to Botswana. At a press briefing this week members of the OCD-1904 told media the weekend meeting was to solicit constructive public input from both communities. It is the third such meeting under the auspices of the Supreme Herero Traditional Authorities and Herero Royal Houses. According to Festus Tjikuua, at the second meeting, which was last December at Omatjete, the technical committee of the OCD-1904 was mandated to "formulate a framework for negotiation (with Germany) on the compensatory developmental package earmarked for affected communities". Tjikuua could not say if any progress was made with the German government. The outcome of the meeting this weekend will be made public at a later stage. The Council for Dialogue however does not seem to include Paramount Chief Kuaima Riruako. Reportedly, Chief Riruako will convene a meeting at Okakarara on Friday, 3 March where he is alleged to become a member of the SWAPO party. A source close to the Chief told PLUS, that president Pohamba is invited to that meeting and either he himself or the minister for presidential affairs is supposed to attend.
