Sossusvlei - a Region of Unparalleled Beauty

The Sossusvlei region remains a sight of unparalleled beauty, even more so after the rains. The desert plains have changed colour from rich green to pale oceans of swaying grass; silver in the rising sun and golden at dawn. For those of you who were less fortunate than me to visit Sossusvlei Lodge and to witness this spectacle I am happy to share some of the pictures taken last weekend.

The activities offered at the Adventure Centre; the Nature Drives, Sunset Drives, Quad Bike Excursions, Hot Air Ballooning and the Scenic Flights are all absolute highlights and should really be included in all accommodation packages. Contact Hendrik and Andrew at adventure@sossusvleilodge.com for reservations.

Other news on the area; the road leading from Sesriem to the 2x4 parking at Sossusvlei is in no good shape at this stage. The first 30-35km is atrocious and really dangerous to travel on! The road is under construction and is closed to traffic at most of this stretch of road. Several detours of varying quality have formed on all sides, causing people to travel on all sides and approaching from any side at any speed! Please alert all guides, clients and persons attempting to travel this road.

The next stretch after this is repaired and good to travel on.

The gravel roads leading to Sossusvlei Lodge and the area are in good condition and are constantly under reconstruction. A rather strange sight is the two stretches of tarred road in the Kuiseb Canyon! If anything it is a welcome change from all the dust while traveling along this route.

For your personal visit to let the tremendous space, tranquility and exclusivity of Sossusvlei Lodge seep into your soul and to also witness the spectacle of nature, feel free to contact the General Manager, Kurt Schlenther, the Central Reservations Office or myself for preferential rates. For your 2007 rate contracts for both, Sossusvlei Lodge and Desert Camp please contact Maryke at marykewilson@mweb.co.za

Photo: It does not happen all too often that you find water in Sossusvlei, but this year the beauty of this tourist attraction is even more obvious - after good rainfalls.
