The Namibain governemnt intends to constrcut a water storage dam near Berseba and the Brukkaros mountain in southwestern Namibia, fiance minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila disclosed on Tuesday. In her reply to the budget debate in Parliament she defende the new budget as indeed "pro-poor and pro-growth", against criticism from the opposotion benches. One of the "pro-growth" strategies was a storage dam near Mount Brukkaros, for which the government would obtain a loan from the African Development Bank, the minister said.

PLUS has reliably learnt that no public process has taken place yet or an environmental study. PLUS was also informed that a Chinese governemnt delegation visited Namibia in 2004 or 2005 and allegedly advised the governemnt to buk.d a dam there to bring "development to the area" by means of irrigation projects. It is further alleged that Chinese companies might build the dam.
