The Uniqueness of Bougain Villas Friday 14th of April 2006
On 10 April 2006, the Bougain Villas was officially opened by the Deputy Mayor of the City of Windhoek, Cnlr. Elaine Trepper. The Bougain Villas is situated on the corner of Hebenstreit and Sam Nujoma, it has 25 shops. It offers a wide range of products from art, linen, a gallery, jewellery, craft, decor, gifts, beauty, fashion, marketing, souvenirs, technology, food as well as up and coming book/ coffee shop and conference facility. It is exclusive and offers a "makeover" for the individual, the home and family, specifically for women and children and the discerning tourist can also find their favourite souvenirs here. This centre and its building styles were inspired by images ranging from medieval to the post modern eras. The vision was to build a courtyard, "a peoples square" with fountains and gardens surrounded by buildings of various styles and images. This small village of fantasy promises to retain the colourful flair of a vibrant market place. Numerous events such as musical festivals, exhibitions, creative workshops, family events will take place regularly as an additional treat to an already extraordinary shopping experience. The Bougain Villas comprises of 7 inspired architectural styles, namely: Romanesque, Medieval (Gothic), New Classical Modern, French Chateau, Fachwerk (German), Art Noveau (1920‘s) and Tuscan (Italian). It is emphasised that every building has its own style and character and is not a copy, replica or reproduction of a certain era or building. It is a mix of dreams and ideas to create a unique masterpiece. The completion of this project was made possible with the support of Bank Windhoek, the City of Windhoek and the professional team in developing this complex where only Namibian sub-contractors were involved in the development. A special word of thanks must also be extended to the late Mr Heinz Himmel for his invaluable contribution. One of the highlights of the Bougain Villas is the Heinz Himmel Auditorium This Venue was named after the late Heinz Himmel for his invaluable contribution in making this exclusive centre an extension of Bougain Villas - a truly unique fantasy experience. This fully equipped facility offers technological advanced visual / audio equipment for a maximum of 30 delegates. It is an upmarket, secluded venue which provides ample secure parking and creates an ambience of style and tranquillity. German Fachwerk is only one of the seven different styles. With the moon rising, the atmosphere was quite romantic on Monday night. |
