In view of the impending school holidays and Easter weekend, the Municipality of Walvis Bay reminded visitors to take note of various rules and regulations during their stay at the coast. In terms of the "By-law on the Control of Sea-shores, the Sea and its Environment" the following actions are prohibited:

Camping on the beach. Only designated camping areas should be used.

Making a fire on the beach area. You may only braai (barbecue) on the beach if the fire is made in a container or where facilities are provided. - Littering, dumping, spilling or leaving any refuse, ash, bait, fish, used fishing products or any other material that may cause obnoxious odours or affect the cleanliness of the dunes and beaches. Please make use of the refuse bins, fish cleaning facilities and toilets. - Unlicensed quad bikes are not allowed on public roads and riders must wear a crash helmet at all times. Visitors are advised to use their quad bikes and off-road vehicles in the demarcated areas only and as directed by tour operators. Excessive noise by quad bikes or any other vehicle is strictly forbidden in residential areas, including popular holiday spots such as Long Beach. Also, no quad bikers are allowed between the residential area and the sea. - Any driving in vegetated areas, the Damara Tern area or along bathing areas is strictly prohibited. Those driving within demarcated areas must at all times do so cautiously, and must especially be on the lookout for children. Traffic officials will be stationed at Long Beach during the Easter long weekend. - Non-compliance with regulations may carry fines of up to N$1000, or three months in prison, or both. Fines will also be imposed on anyone found damaging municipal property, notice boards, fences and any local authority building or structure. The Municipality urges all visitors to adhere to these regulations to avoid inconveniences during their visit.
