Namibia had managed a successful transformation from a skewed economy of the pre-independence era to a modern economy with superb infrastructure, Tanzanian president Jakaya Kikwete told President Hifikepunye Pohamba during official talks at State House this week. Kikwete came for a state visit on Monday and left on Wednesday. Kikwete visited Meatco and the Lev Leviev Diamond cutting and polishing company. The Tanzanian president also said he wanted the fishing sector of his country to be transformed into an industry and that he would like to see a diamond cutting and polishing plant to be established in Tanzania. The country also mines gold and its economy grew by 6% in 2005. Kikwete became president last December after elections. On his part, President Pohamba announced that Namibia would open an embassy in Dar es Salaam soon.
