Saturday 20th of May 2006 Police arrest 4 after assault of boy After the National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) reported on the horrible assault in northern Namibia on a 16-year old village boy, Hafeni Ikolola earlier this month, the police arrested 3 civilians one 1 police officer. Chief Inspector Hieronymus Goraseb of the public relations department of NamPol said on Wednesday, 3 people were arrested after investigations and they appeared before a magistrate in Oshakati. They are Mutilifa Keeleleni, Andreas Nghishekwa, and Nakanyala Akuunda. They all paid N$800 bail. Police sergeant Sakeus Amuele was found to also be involved and he too was arrested last Thursday. He is out on bail. The case will continue on 24 July, according to Goraseb. The boy was chained to a pillar at a cuca shop, where he spent the whole night. He was apparently repeatedly whipped to force him to confess to house breaking and theft, which he denied he was involved in. 76 kilos of dagga found Police arrested a 30-year old man in the Wanaheda suburb of Windhoek last week who had 76 kilograms of dagga (cannabis) with him, valued at N$ 228,000. According to the crime bulletin of the police, which was sent out this week, investigation continues. Meanwhile a Brazilian suspect who arrived some 3 weeks ago with his wife with small packages of cocaine they had swallowed and carried them in their stomachs, and was arrested after a tip off, appeared in the Windhoek court this week. His wife died just hours after their arrival in Windhoek, apparently from stomach complications deriving from the swallowed cocaine packets. Her husband now also faces a charge of murder.
Teenager suicides On Monday a 16-year old boy in Khomasdal, Alf Stuurman, committed suicide by shooting himself with a .38 revolver in the head. The incident occurred around 05h30 in the early morning. A young girl from the Caprivi, also 16 year old, took an overdose of tablets to kill herself. Mercy Namasiku did this last Friday evening at around 20h00. A 26-yearol man of Omauni village in the Ohangwena Region shot himself in the head on Sunday morning at around 10h00. Namibia has a high rate of suicides. |
