Parking on space for disabled people Saturday 20th of May 2006
The new Volvo of the United Nations office with the diplomatic registration plate 167 CD 01 and a local pick up with registration N 76713 W were parked at the two only parking bays for disabled people a the Parliament Building (Tintenpalast) on Tuesday morning. Despite a "No Parking" board and being clearly marked for disabled people only, the driver of the UN Volvo did not care on bit about disabled people and just parked the car on their space. Officers from the Namibian police, who are usually all too keen to chase away vehicles wanting to park in the area on Tuesdays, when Cabinet has its meeting, did nothing to get the cars removed. It is a disgrace that a diplomatic vehicle like that of the UN shows no respect for the parking bays the Namibian government had clearly reserved for the disabled. It is even worse that the dozens of police officers hanging around the Tintenpalast did not exercise their duty either. Photo: Brigitte Weidlich |
