The Aida Auas View Annual Equestrian Tournament will be hosted in Windhoek on the 27th and 28th May 2006 and will consist of show jumping and dressage disciplines.

For the first time a new event under the tournament, called the Verizon Auas View Master Championships, has been included with a total prize purse of N$5 000,00 and the total sponsorship from Verizon Business amounts to N$7,500.00.

At the cheque handover, Charmain Lingenfelder Corporate Account Manager of Verizon Business said: "It is a priviledge for Verizon (formerly known as UUNET Namibia) to get involved with a sport which involves such discipline and dedication. This echoes the values of Verizon and we look forward to a fruitful partnership with the Auas View Equestrian Club.

The rules of the Championships require 5 children riders, 5 junior riders and 5 adults are invited to participate in this event. They will be selected based on the results achieved from other events in this tournament. In each of these categories the 5 riders will compete against each other and a winner will be selected from each. Based on time and points, from the 3 winners (1 from children, 1 junior and one adult) the Master for 2006 will be announced.

It is envisaged that the Verizon Auas View Master Championships will become an annual event, encouraging riders to continuously upgrade and improve on their skills.

On behalf of the Auas View Equestrian Club, Gerhard van Staden said: "There is no perfect horse, nor is there a perfect rider. It takes an enormous amount of hard work in the form of training, discipline, dedication and finances to overcome the shortcomings of individual horse and rider, in order to build a partnership that will enable them to compete successfully in show jumping. By hosting the Verizon Auas View Masters Championship, we aim to both encourage and reward such hard work for the benefit of the riding community and the equestrian sport."
