HIV and Aids a threat to transport sector Saturday 24th of June 2006 The transport sector in Namibia and in the southern African region is very vulnerable to HIV and Aids, experts said at a business forum on Wednesday, organised by the Namibia Business Coalition against AIDS (Nabcoa). Dr Kathrin Lauckner of the GTZ said the high mobility of people in the sector and in route corridors like Trans-Caprivi and Trans-Kalahari made trick drivers and commercial sex workers vulnerable to the disease. However, in the case of Namibia not many data and facts were available like the impact of Aids on employees in transport companies. The threat and impact of Aids on the transport sector had to be addressed by both the government and the private sector, Lauckner said. |
